Everything has been so crazy these past few months and me and my family totally needed a last-minute weekend vacation! As many of you know, finding a wheelchair accessible location is not that simple. So, I have teamed up with Expedia to show y’all how easy it is to book the perfect trip!

We definitely wanted to do a beach trip so we chose one of the closest beaches to our home for convenience! Carolina Beach is one of the most accessible beaches on the East Coast and I knew it would be perfect for our trip. They even have adaptive surfing lessons! So, I needed to find a hotel that was wheelchair accessible and had all the amenities I needed for a convenient stay.
The Expedia App has a lot of features to narrow it down to the accommodations that fit your needs. They have a feature where you can choose your accessibility needs and so I looked up ocean front hotels that had roll in showers! I also really wanted to stay at a hotel that had some additional disinfecting procedures to keep visitors safe. Expedia has recently added a feature so you can see which hotels are taking further precautions and you can even message any questions to the property owner straight from the app! I also really appreciated the free cancellation option because stuff can always come up! The Hampton Inn and Suites had a roll in shower, extra cleaning features and at about 15% off, the room was a great deal! Expedia has a bunch of last minute deals and using the app made it super easy!

We absolutely loved the hotel from the moment we got there. Everyone was super nice and everything was extra clean. Our room was absolutely perfect and completely accessible for my wheelchair. The bed was the perfect height which is super rare these days! The bathroom was very well done with a roll in shower, built in shower bench and a sink that you could roll up under. The only negative I would say is that there was no room that provided all of these options that was also Oceanview with a balcony. But Overall we were very happy with the room. The entire property is pretty easy to navigate and there is a ramp to get into the pool area. They had a pool lift for me so that was super convenient as well!

A bunch of cute beach shops and yummy restaurants are right outside the hotel too! Make sure you stop and get some Britts Donuts too! Be prepared for a line. The sell out everyday so get there early!

I definitely want to tell y’all how amazing the beach is for wheelchair users! An organization called Ocean Cure has done a lot to make the beach wheelchair accessible. They put mats out that go pretty close to the water so that wheelchairs can easily get closer! They also worked with the town to have a bunch of beach wheelchairs available for anyone who is interested. The best access point with a ramp is about two beach access points down from the Hampton Inn. Totally not far at all! unfortunately the town made them take up the mats for now. I suspect they will be back next summer. But either way there is a ramp and beach wheelchairs

Ocean Cure takes people with disabilities out to the ocean so they can experience surfing. Before my injury I lived at the beach and loved being in the water. Being able to lie on a surfboard, and feel the freedom of riding a wave, is a feeling impossible to put into words! Keven Murphy started it all and he takes people with disabilities surfing at no cost. You just lie on your stomach and he will push the board into the wave! Be sure to eat at the Lazy Pirate on your stay. The are huge contributor to Ocean Cure, have some of the best food in town, and it’s wheelchair accessible!

So whether you are in a wheelchair or not, Expedia is a great way to book your next trip! There are so many ways to narrow your search to fInd the best accommodations for your getaway. You can even earn double Expedia Reward points by booking on the app. So definitely check out Expedia for booking your next vacation! Hope y’all are doing well and staying safe!
